Purpose of the Contest

Students will compete in and promote residential construction technology. Teams of four students will demonstrate their skills and talents in construction technology.

Skills and Knowledge to Be Tested

• Ability to accurately read and interpret building plans

• Carpentry: Framing of floors, walls, and roofs; Finishing of openings and gable ends.

• Safety: Safe use of equipment and materials.

• Teamwork.

Clothing Requirements

• No loose or baggy clothing

• No jewelry

• CSA approved eyewear.

• CSA approved footwear.

• CSA approved hard hat.

• Ear protection required when using power tools.

Equipment and Materials

Provided by the competitors: 

safety glasses, safety boots, hard hat, ear protection, tape measure, hammers, hand saws, portable circular saw, saw horses,

carpenters belt, framing square, combination square, levels, six foot step ladder, extension cords, hand drills (battery or electric), wood chisels, chalk line, pry bar, pencils, calculator.

**All materials, and stationary equipment provided by committee, all drawings in imperial measurements.

The Project

Students will be given a set of plans for a small building approximately 4 feet by 4 feet with a window, door, and gable roof. They will be asked to interpret the plans and construct the building to OBC standards.
