PURPOSE of the COMPETITION
To test, evaluate and educate competitors in the skills needed to survive in today’s real and everchanging world of photography.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO BE TESTED
· Artistic Creativity – photographic eye, use of light, composition, image orientation, control of visual elements, subject
· Capture Format – RAW, JPEG Technical – Image sharpness, focus, exposure, white balance, depth of field, ISO
· Postproduction – Image editing, colour adjustments, retouching, lens correction, image manipulation, cropping, aspect ratios, keywording.
· Output – Image output aspect ratios, re-sizing, output file formats, output sources
· Final professional work
No AI may be used.
TASK:
1. Competitors will bring a matted print with them for the Judges to evaluate while the competition is in progress. No frames please. The competitor’s name must be on the back of this photograph.
2. Competitors will complete an editing test.
3. Competitors will be sent out on a photo assignment, topic TBA
4. Competitors will then edit and submit the required number of photographs in the proper formats.

JUDGING CRITERIA
Printed & matted photograph
Judge(s) (at a glance) will determine whether or not your images have an immediate and compelling visual impact. Strong images are typically easy for the viewer to understand, make use of a clear subject (or point of interest), and consider potentially distracting visual elements.

Artistic Creativity, Technical and Postproduction
Judges will then assess each image individually, and as an overall body to score artistic merit, technical execution, and postproduction work as it relates to the skills and knowledge criteria.
Judges also like to see skills consistency – so make every image count!

Format and Output versions of the final digital images will be required; each in jpeg format.
Output #1 – High Resolution Images (ready for printing):
1. Save your images in a digital folder titled with your “last name”, and the words “skills” (Ie : smith skills).

As the rules state, there are no ties. If the score is tied after the contest, the creativity elements will be used as the tie breaker.
Immediate disqualification may occur at the discretion of the technical chair if a competitor displays any one of the following:
· Acts inappropriately.
· Shows disregard for the safety of themselves or those around them.
· Breaks the established rules and regulations including:
· Uses equipment, software or material that is not permitted.
· Dishonest conduct (cheating, plagiarism)
· Speaks with those outside the contest area / or is in communication with their coach.
· Arrives to the contest site late.
Sign-in for all contests will happen on the contest site the morning of the competition.
